This podcast was compiled as part of a broadcast media & filming course the the Batchelor Institute of Indigenous education conducted on Nauiyu community a remote Indigenous comm7nity located on the Daly River in the Northern Territory. The course gives the young people an opportunity to develop media platforms to portray their lives, which is what this podcast allows these 2 women to display.

Finally the Woman of Artful Flavours recorded our first official podcast.The podcasts are a platform where woman can have a voice. Our own Raquel Samson is taking the helm and she invited her amazing friends, sisters Kani & Asuka, to share their stories. They speak about their unfortunate encounter with the justice system here in the Northern Territory, racism, the failings and lack of beneficial support in the current system and the miss treatment and disrespect of our First Nation women. These 2 beautiful African woman who grew up in Darwin are extremely articulate and have a lot to say.

Uluru Statement From the Heart

Performers of The Youth Mill provided much of the entertainment for the Financial Counsellors of Australia conference at both the Darwin Entertainment Centre and Pee Wees restaurant. One of the performance elements was Edwin Fejo and Leigh Fowlestone performing an original composing “Together” to the text of The Uluru Statement from the Heart. It was a very moving performance and I witnessed tears from many of the audience.

Weekend workshops

Thanks to both Federal Government – Indigenous Language and Arts and NT Government – Dept of Health, TYM is now facilitating Women of Artful Flavours and Beats of Culture weekend workshops at Daly River/Nauiyu community and Batchelor/Adelaide River, to support our more remote young people with cultural artistic activities. The young people have been working with community elders to write original songs in language which they will record for airplay on their local community radio station.
